KWIH established K. Wah Education Fund to provide an ideal learning environment

Upholding the belief that "giving back to the society from which one is benefitted", KWIH contributed RMB100 million to establish Guangzhou Huadu District Xinya Street Jiaxing School in Huadu District, Guangzhou, China. On 27 October 2016, more than 300 guests, teachers and students attended the Guangzhou Huadu District Xinya Street Jiaxing School Handover cum the Establishment of K. Wah Education Fund Ceremony to witness and celebrate the historical moment together. During the ceremony, KWIH also announced the establishment of K. Wah Education Fund amounting to RMB1 million.

Ms Paddy Lui, Executive Director of KWIH, said, “J Metropolis is our new large-scale key project settled in Huadu District. As a property with superb living environment and easy access to ancillary thorough facilities, J Metropolis today is even developed with rich educational resources. Committed to delivering premium properties and building comprehensive infrastructure development in J Metropolis, we also hope Guangzhou Huadu District Xinya Street Jiaxing School could provide an ideal learning environment for parents and their children in Huadu District. And, the launch of the education fund could help the school enrich its curriculum and support teachers to widen their horizons through vocational training. Looking ahead, KWIH and the government of Huadu District will continue to work together to create a perfect living environment and a quality community for local residents.”

KWIH raises funds for the education of left-behind children in Mainland China

KWIH staff joined the first SHKA Charity Walk for a Million co-organised by the Shanghai Charity Foundation and the Shanghai Hong Kong Association Limited on 19 November 2016. The event aimed at raising funds for Project VolunONLINE, which supports the learning of left-behind children living in remote areas in Mainland China through online classes. Committed to giving back to society by supporting charitable causes, through this event, KWIH hopes to spread its staff’s love and care to society, and promote positive energy and a positive attitude towards life.

Dr Lui Che-woo visited Peking University to share his experience

Invited by the Peking University Education Foundation, Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group, had an insightful sharing with over 150 scholars and students in a forum held at the Peking University on 24 June 2016. In addition to sharing how he develops his business empire over the past 70 years through a prudent yet pragmatic approach, he also stressed the importance of “Sharing in Harmony.” He said that beyond fame and fortune, spiritual calmness and inner happiness are much more important. This is also Dr Lui’s aspiration of the establishment of LUI Che Woo Prize – Prize for World Civilisation.

Dr Lui Che-woo officiated at unveiling ceremony of Phase 2 of Hong Kong Wuyi University Education Foundation Building

The unveiling ceremony of the Phase 2 of Hong Kong Wuyi University Education Foundation Building was held at Wuyi University in Jiangmen on 3 June 2016. As the Former Chairman of Wuyi University Education Fund (Hong Kong) Limited and Honorary Life Chairman of Wuyi University Board of Trustees, Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group officiated at the ribbon-cutting ceremony and encouraged the University to continue nurturing talents for the society.

In his speech, Dr Lui paid tribute to overseas Chinese, fellow townsmen and the local government who provided unfailing support to the establishment of the University and laid a solid foundation for its development. After years of advancement, its graduates become a key driving force for the construction of local economy, and take a leading role to promote the progress of the nation and society.

Established by Dr Lui and his friends in 1992, the Hong Kong Wuyi University Education Foundation has been providing resources essential for the development of the Wuyi University, including funding the teaching and learning facilities, campus networks and study tours. It also supported the construction of Shiyou Building and Lui Che-woo Technology Building.

Establishment of Lui Che Woo Distinguished Young Scholars Award

Dr Lui Che-woo, Chairman of K. Wah Group is a long-standing supporter of medical research and development. Through LUI Che Woo Charity, Dr Lui has made a donation of US$2 million to the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) for the establishment of Lui Che Woo Distinguished Young Scholars Award. Supported by the endowment fund, Lui Che Woo Distinguished Young Scholars Research Scholarship will be offered to distinguished CUHK medical students for pursuing postgraduate research abroad.

Officiated by Dr Lui, Prof Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, and Prof Francis Chan, Dean of Faculty of Medicine of CUHK, the donation ceremony was held at the Lui Che Woo Clinical Sciences Building of Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin on 12 May 2016.

By establishing the scholarship, Dr Lui encourages outstanding medical students in Hong Kong to contribute to the society by exploring a new era for medical sciences with innovative and multiple perspective thinking.
