Raising Local Hospitality to International Standards
In the late 1970s, Hong Kong had become a famous “shopping paradise”, attracting over two million visitors from around the world each year. This influx of tourists drove the demand for quality hotels. Always at the forefront of trends, Dr Lui joined with the world-renowned Holiday Inn hotel group to build his first five-star hotel. In 1979, he acquired a piece of land in Tsim Sha Tsui East for HK$68 million and spent another HK$300 million to build the InterContinental Grand Standford Hong Kong (previously known as the Holiday Inn Harbour View) which opened in 1981. It was one of the very few five-star hotels in Hong Kong operating under a franchise system.
Following Dr Lui’s customers-first philosophy, K. Wah is committed to developing hotel management professionals, who are the backbone of the company’s success in its hospitality business in the U.S. as well as its entertainment and leisure business in Macau. This pool of talent has also contributed greatly to the local tourism industry.
